Porcelain alone is not enough in order to say at the sight of smile: “What a beautiful one!” This man had four front teeth covered with porcelain crowns, but they were so different from the neighbouring ones that they blemished rather than gave him charm. So pillars were lengthened, that is, a delicate gum surgery was performed to improve the proportions. Then the crowns were replaced with all-ceramic ones which do not contain metal, so they retain light in exactly the same way as natural teeth do. And only such treatment changed the face of a musician, an author of texts, a man with many talents.

Is it possible to change the position of teeth without the necessity to carry the dental composite? Of course it is, although orthodontic treatment is often the best way to improve teeth position. Here, however, the inclination of the incisors was caused by the aggressive form of periodontal disease with massive bone atrophy, so at first periodontal treatment was carried out, and then implants were made with crowns on them. The patient has enjoyed such a look since 2006.

Is it the same face? − one will ask. Of course. All one had to do was return the lost glow, rebuild the jawbone, put the implants in place of the decayed or previously removed teeth, then look for a smile line that fits the lips, cheekbones and eyes. Finally, choose the color of the teeth keeping in mind that the moustache can darken the image, because it casts a shadow on the incisors. And this gentleman really likes his moustache and is not going to part with it. Since 2009, when the last crown was put on the molar, he has started to smile more and more often.

This lady can be called beautiful. Such a petite, bright blonde, with playful dimples on the cheeks. However, she has lost her smile somewhere. Her front teeth often underwent root canal treatment, were rebuilt with dental resins and thus lost their natural shapes and colour. They started to be aligned with each other in a random way. Continuous repair of fillings and tooth ligation, i.e. joining two or three teeth, could only prolong agony − the changes in the apex of some roots were already extensive. A decision about comprehensive treatment was undertaken and ended up with such an effect.

This lady had been delaying her visit to a dentist for a long time. Someone or something was always more important for her: husband, children, and celebrations. Until the moment she said: Enough! I will also do something for myself. First, the side teeth were taken care of, because they should carry out the task of biting the food, they were created for that. They have the right number of roots and large crowns. When the masticatory system was properly functioning again (apart from the teeth, it also consists of bones, temporomandibular joints and muscles), one could also take care of an aesthetic smile.

Nowadays periodontitis does not mean loss of teeth. They can be preserved while sick gums and bones can be cured. Because this condition is associated with disappearance of these tissues. The first symptom that should not be underestimated is bleeding during brushing. Later on one can see the moving teeth pushed out of the arch. Such a picture already shows an advanced disease. But even then one can repair a lot of things, rebuild damaged tissues and restore the teeth stability. This patient reported a very advanced periodontitis, with massive tissue atrophy. After the bone rebuilding (so-called controlled regeneration of tissues), after the improving of the appearance of the front teeth due to veneers and a crown, she has been enjoying health and a nice appearance for many years.

The roots of the fangs and incisors were used here, because they did not contain periapical changes. The teeth destroyed with caries were rebuilt on them. Only the lateral molars, once removed, were replaced with implants. The patient remembers about regular follow-ups combined with hygiene. He has been coming from Germany for years.

Teeth grinding or bruxism often leads to tooth abrasion, shortening of crowns, sometimes cracking and painfulness occur in the area of temporomandibular joints as well as persistent headaches. They make the patient look for neurologist’s help. And most often it is sufficient to improve the occlusion, use the relaxation rail, rebuild damaged due to excessive burden crowns, restore their former height − and migraine disappears. Like with this patient.

This lady knew well what she wanted. And almost at once she demanded the brightest tint of white. A grey shade of teeth has always caused pain, was a real nuisance. Looking at her reflection, she saw only the tooth bonding that have long lost brightness and glow. Does a dentist have a right to refuse? To convince her to follow the natural colour, while she dreams of perfection recognised as the snow white? After brightening the teeth, a veneer was made on the twelfth tooth, a crown on the central eleventh incisor and a zirconia bridge on the twenty first and twenty third teeth (she lost two of them a few years ago). A smile appeared on her face for the first time since we met. Still uncertain, with a drooping lip on the left because she had been trying to cover the defect for a long time (no longer existing).

This woman – an admirer of mountain expeditions, scuba diving and the supporter of ecological nutrition − once asked: how to make the teeth fit and form a whole? She cared about health and natural appearance. She has already started to like the discoloration and the yellowish tint dominant in her smile. Neither the polychromy nor the dark colour of her teeth, nor their unevenness did not disturb her. “If homogeneity (…) was a true source of beauty, the more things seemed to be homogeneous, the more pleasure we would receive from watching them. Yet it is not like that” − Hogarth explained. We had been talking for a long time, more than once, finally we decided to make a slight improvement of the smile, without excessive interference. After the orthodontic treatment, the clinical crowns of the twelfth and twenty first teeth were extended, and then the incisors on the right side and the first tooth on the left were polished and made ready for all-ceramic crowns. “The avoidance of regularity remains the unchanging principle of the painting composition” − the painter maintained. Here, the avoidance of unity brought about the effect of natural, intact teeth.

Has anyone heard that teeth can ruin ones life? Well, yes, when the girl does not smile back, she turns her head, does not want to look at the boy who wants to approach her. Nature mocked her, deprived her of primordia of the second teeth, so she wanted to hide it, avoiding meetings, conversations, and parties. And yet such a defect can be quite easily improved. For example, by carrying out prosthetic restoration on zirconium.

How to eliminate discoloration after tetracycline? The veneers with a thick layer of so-called opaque porcelain can help here.

And if someone suffers from a yellowish tint of teeth, it can be whitened. Preparations with carbamide peroxide, which oxidizes soil and is used for enamel recolouring, are used for this purpose. This is the least invasive method of lightening. If it is done with care, according to the recommendations of the producers of bleaching products, after prior examination, evaluation of the initial colour, after securing gums against accidental damage, the effect can be exquisite − that is, lightening up to two tones.
